Youth ministry is my passion! I love working with teenagers. I started youth group in the seventh grade and until this day I have been part of a youth group. I am a native of Roanoke. I grew up here and attended local schools (Grandin Court, Green Valley, Raleigh Court , Woodrow Wilson and Patrick Henry). My family attended Raleigh Court UMC where I was a part of the youth group. I have two older brothers (yes my mother has survived raising three boys) who are both over six feet tall – go figure.
Upon graduating high school, I attended Virginia Tech and stayed active in my home youth group as a junior leader. I participated in the Wesley Foundation at Tech where Robyn Martin and I sang together in the Wesley singers. I graduated from Tech with a BA in Communications and a minor in Family & Child development. After I moved back to Roanoke, I took on a part time job as youth director at Woodlawn UMC – where Karen Hamann and I worked together.
During this time I worked in the hospitality business working my way up to the position of the Director of the Conference Center at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center. But my calling into ministry continued to grow. I found my passion to be in full time ministry growing by the year.
As an answer to my call, I began the process to become ordained in the United Methodist Church. My calling is to be an ordained Deacon – servant ministry. It is during this process that God lead me here to Bonsack UMC. I look forward to completing my studies and becoming ordained while working in ministry here with my church family at Bonsack. |
