Hello. I am Karen Hamann, Director of Music Ministries. I am originally from Martinsville, Virginia. I moved to the Roanoke Valley in 1993 when my husband Dale accepted the position of Camp Director for WOODS through The Virginia Baptist Children’s Home. We have 2 daughters: Tara & Kirsten.
I began directing church choirs as a volunteer at age 18. I continued to serve as a volunteer musician until I went back to school as an adult to earn my music degree. I received a BA in Church Ministries: Music from Averett College in 1991. I continued to be a volunteer musician at Starling Avenue Baptist Church, where I did my senior internship, until I accepted my first position as paid staff at Villa Heights Baptist Church in Martinsville. After moving to the Roanoke Valley I served as Minister of Music at Woodlawn UMC for 7 years. In September of 1999 I began my music ministry here at Bonsack. We offer 9 different opportunities for music ministry: Cherubs (ages 3-4), Musical Kids I (grades K-1-2), Musical Kids II (grades 3-4-5), Youth Choir (grades 6-12), Adult Handbells, A cappella, Chancel Choir, Generations of Praise & Men’s Chorus. |
