Special Classes are held throughout the year to serve the varying needs of our church family. In the fall there will be a class for those who are seeking to know about the Christian Faith and the United Methodist History. This class will be called "Christian Beginnings". We offer New Member Classes several times a year. New Member Class: “STRIDE”A class for those interested in becoming members of Bonsack UMC starts Sunday, Sept. 6th and runs for approximately two months. Folks who attend this class will be prepared to join the church later this fall, if they so desire. To join this class, contact Susan Wagner at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call the church office at 977-4212. New Sunday School Class for Adults: "BEGINNINGS"This is a new class offered Fall 2009 for any adult who is not yet in a Sunday school class, or for anyone seeking information about the Christian faith and the United Methodist denomination. This class is called “Beginnings” and it will last for 12-15 weeks. After that time, participants of the Class will either go back to their regular class, visit the existing classes to find a fit, or start a new class. The class begins on Sunday, Sept. 13. At least 11 teachers have been lined up to give differing perspectives on their own faith journeys. Please call Susan Wagner at the church office (977-4212) or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sharing Your Faith ClassCome Learn About… Based on this “Great Commission,” our United Methodist Church has stated its purpose: “The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Local churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making occurs” (From The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church—2008, p. 87. To do that, we need to be sharing our faith in Christ with others. Could you use some help in this area? The BUMC Evangelism Team has plans for a class you won’t want to miss! We invite you to come Sunday, October 11 through Sunday, December 13, as Brenda Brooks leads a study based on the book Sharing Your Faith With Friends and Family: Talking About Jesus Without Offending, by Michael Green. The class will be held from 6:30–8PM at church to make it convenient for parents who have children or youth involved in church activities at that same time. Here's the description found on the back cover: "You don't want to say something that would offend your father, yet you care deeply about his need for a savior. You don't want your friend to think you're pushy, but you realize how vital this decision is for her. You're aware that an overwhelming majority of people come to Christ through their friendships with committed Christians, but you still struggle with how to share your faith with those close to you. In Sharing Your Faith with Friends and Family, Oxford scholar and evangelist Michael Green shows you how to approach and talk naturally with our friends about faith and God. Here you'll gain a wealth of practical insights, from starting the conversation and presenting the gospel message to avoiding mistakes and handling common responses. Most importantly, Green shows how introducing a friend or relative to Christ is the most worthwhile and fulfilling ministry a Christian can have." |
